MasterCard for Qkr! with MasterPass
MasterCard introduced Wagamama to Qkr!, a mobile payment app that lets customers see their order and pay, or split the bill with other diners, instantly from their phone.
The app eliminates the 12-minute cycle between asking for the bill and paying for it, so customers using Qkr! can leave whenever they are ready. The success of the app has driven other restaurants to adopt it, including Carluccio’s, ASK Italian, Young’s pubs and Zizzi, with more on the way.
Oracle and the Prince’s Trust
In 2015, the Prince’s Trust kicked off Project Insight, a digital transformation initiative with the goal of better engaging with young people, providing quality support, and ultimately reaching more of the individuals who most need help.
By working with Oracle, the Trust was able to match young people to relevant programmes more accurately, and ensure those programmes were filled, and to engage with more young people through the launch of a new website.
The Trust used BI tools to improve how it tracked users’ progress from initial contact through to work, education and training.
At the heart of Project Insight was an Oracle CRM system (Frontline) that allowed the Trust to improve engagement and increase efficiency by better tracking the journey of young people and understand its audience.
In addition, the redesigned user-friendly web and mobile site provided yet more insights.

VMWare and London Capital Group
London Capital Group (LCG) is a leading provider of online trading services, offering a wide variety of financial trading products and platforms across the spread betting market.
The company has to provide a constantly available service but was running the business on a complex network based on legacy equipment, which caused stability problems and service outages.
The LGC board decided that it needed to launch a new financial trading platform, but the IT team knew that the current network could not support this in terms of availability and security.
By investing in VMware NSX this year, LCG has replaced its old physical network with a reliable, agile and secure virtual network which has enabled it to launch a new state-of-the-art trading platform on time and budget. This has delivered an instant competitive advantage and improved revenue opportunities for the business.
Enabling micro-segmentation through NSX also means that the LCG can now ensure that customer data, including financial details, remains secure and compliant, meeting Financial Conduct Authority regulations in the UK and the impending enforcement of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation.
LCG is looking to further its investment in VMware. “With VMware NSX, the business knows we can keep internal and customer data safe and secure,” said Blair Wright, LGC chief information officer.
“It has also made our trading platform more robust and given us the flexibility to better provide our 24/7 global service for the full market week.”
Instart Logic and Office Depot
While evaluating new technologies, the innovation team described the performance boosts with Instart Logic as a “no brainer”. However, a greater realisation came as the team began to understand Instart Logic’s architecturally unique approach.
The Innovation Centre realised that the platform’s ability to understand the user’s device and browser meant that the technology could be used to deliver an image-rich, personalised user experience without having to compromise web performance or load speeds.
As Office Depot Europe started to experience increased mobile traffic, it faced the problem of congested and constricted cellular connections. Instart Logic became an essential cornerstone of building a mobile first business, where image resizing and SmartVision played a huge role in reducing file sizes.
Office Depot Europe would have suffered the unfortunate effects of poor mobile performance on shopping cart sizes, bounce rates and conversions. Luckily, it also switched to Instart Logic for mobile delivery and is now seeing metrics that are better than ever.
In addition to agility and performance, Office Depot Europe found genuine partnership in switching to Instart Logic. The Office Depot web security team recounted several times when they faced assaults by botnets and relied closely on the Instart Logic team to take ownership of the problem until it had been completely resolved.
Michael Lazer, head of web security, said: “It’s one thing to have a web application firewall, but the value Instart Logic provides our customers is protection. The value they provide to me is peace of mind. ”
Arcus Global and Peterborough City Council
Peterborough City Council has developed an innovative strategy that uses best-of-breed cloud technology from vendors that aren’t traditionally visible in the public sector to enable the council’s wide and varied transformation programme.
Working with Arcus the council has redesigned the complete digital journey from residents accessing the council through Salesforce Communities, the contact centre having access to customer records in the Service Cloud CRM and rebuilding back-office applications on the platform.
This is the first fully joined up digital strategy in the country that fully replaces back-office systems and consolidates them onto a single platform rather than trying to integrate with legacy systems.
In rebuilding the back-office systems Peterborough designed an application that works and operates in the way staff want it to, to deliver services as efficiently as possible rather than the vendor dictating how the software will work.
By using the single platform the council now has complete access to data across Communities, Service Cloud and, allowing the council to be a truly data-driven authority by breaking down traditional departmental data silos and making truly corporate decisions.
The approach has seen the council migrate away from traditional on-premise Microsoft applications and roll out Google apps, Box, Okta, Transversal and Informatica. The council has migrated its legacy on-premise server estate to AWS.
Peterborough City Council is redefining the public sector model and has been globally recognised with awards for World’s Smartest City and City on a Cloud.
Silver Peak and Interroll; re-architecting its WAN
Interroll, a provider of products for internal logistics, became frustrated with the complexity of MPLS and the resulting unpredictable performance of cloud applications.
The firm turned to Silver Peak to re-architect its WAN. Headquartered in Switzerland, Interroll continues to run an MPLS network, but now augments MPLS with broadband to connect 13 production facilities, 18 sales offices and 1,800 employees across the UK, Asia Pacific and North America.
Engineers and designers in these locations work with customers to design and develop new products. Editing and moving CAD files across the WAN is an essential part of that process.
As Interroll grew, transferring large design files proved increasingly impractical. Interroll wanted to centralise its application services, including AutoCAD, and improve centralised SAP access from private regional data centres.
However, that would require an estimated five times increase in MPLS bandwidth. Interroll had also embraced SaaS and IaaS offerings, which made directing the cloud traffic across the MPLS backbone impractical, consuming even more MPLS bandwidth and further affecting cloud application performance.
With Silver Peak, Interroll reshaped how it delivers applications. AutoCAD now performs as well across the internet as it does on a local system, and the company’s Visio drawings in SharePoint can be viewed, opened and edited quickly and easily.
Office 365 performance has also significantly improved. This was all accomplished without requiring an increase in bandwidth. Interroll can now make the most of internet connectivity, the most economical source of connectivity available.
