Dramatic video captures the moment a 14-year-old girl plummeted about 25 feet from a ride at an upstate Six Flags amusement park — and was caught by a group of guests and security workers.
The teen fell from the Sky Ride, a gondola that spans several feet across Six Flags Great Escape, around 8 p.m. on Saturday, The Glens Falls Post-Star reported.
The ride’s operator brought it to a stop after receiving a radio transmission from park staff on the ground that a rider was in distress, according to the report.
“Her neck is stuck!” people down below yelled as the teen dangled from the car she was riding in, Facebook video posted by witness Loren Lent shows. She was in the car with a child relative, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office told the Post-Star.
Suddenly, someone yelled, “They’ ll catch her!” and the girl dropped from the car. A group of people immediately caught her — and cheers erupted in the crowd.
The teen was treated by emergency medical personnel on scene and rushed to Glens Falls Hospital — and was later taken by helicopter to Albany Medical Center, the Post-Star reported.
The girl, from Greenwood, Delaware, was reported to be in stable condition, with no serious injuries reported.
A 47-year-old man from Schenectady, who helped to catch the teen, was treated at Glens Falls Hospital for a back injury, the paper reported.
Sheriff’s investigators and park personnel inspected the ride and the car the girl was riding in and determined that everything was in proper working order.
“The safety and security of our guests is our top priority, ” park spokeswoman Jessica Hansen told the Post-Star in an email. “This does not appear to be any malfunction of the ride, but we have closed the attraction for further review.”
