The petrified man, who only gave his name as Gareth, was eating out with a friend near London Bridge when the attackers stormed in, forcing him to flee into the toilet with a small group.
A terrified diner has revealed he thought his number was up as he sat barricaded in a toilet cubicle as a frenzied attack unfolded in the restaurant inside.
The petrified man, who only gave his name as Gareth, was eating out with a friend when the attackers stormed in.
He and a small group of people from other parties, including a heavily pregnant woman, managed to escape into a cubicle – but he secretly believed he was going to be shot through the door.
Gareth told CNN: ‘I think it’s the first time in my life that I got the feeling that it’s absolute game over.
‘I’ve lived in London for 12 years and I lived pretty close to where the previous attack was, as well.
‘I came down one evening and just happened to pick the restaurant there by chance.
‘It was the fear – looking into my friends eyes and looking to a woman who was about to give birth and seeing the fear in their eyes and trying to calm them down and not being able to make a sound.
‘We could hear voices outside of the door and people walking up and down and we had to keep deadly silent because we thought we were going to get gunned down through the door, basically because we could hear the shots outside.’
One man was stabbed in the face and another in the stomach at the Black & Blue steak restaurant, witnesses said.
A witness who gave his name as Jamie said: ‘We hid under the table and people came into the restaurant and knocked a bunch of stuff over, like the till.
‘And then we ran into the kitchen, where there was a bunch of other people and a guy had been stabbed and he was cut and he was bleeding quite a lot.’
Witness Ben and his wife Natalie were close to the Southwark Tavern and saw people being stabbed outside.
He said: ‘We saw people running away and then I saw a man in red with a large blade, at a guess 10 inches long, stabbing a man, about three times.
‘I was across the road about 15m away. [The attacker] was dark-skinned and had a red tracksuit on.
‘It looked like the man had been trying to intervene, but there wasn’t much he could do. He was being stabbed quite coldly and he slumped to the ground.’
Meanwhile diners in Katzenjammers restaurant, close to Southwark Tavern, were ordered on to the floor by police in an incident caught on film.
Terrified men and women can be seen crouching in place as officers sweep through looking for the terror suspects.
The bloody aftermath of the London terror attack has been laid bare in video footage from inside a Borough Market pub.
A wounded man with blood spattered across his trousers can be seen sitting on the floor of The Globe pub as medics try to treat him after he was attacked by jihadi knifemen on Saturday night.
Meanwhile a police officer shouts at dozens of others hiding under tables and chairs to get upstairs and away from the carnage.
The footage was captured just yards from the Wheatsheaf pub, where the three terrorist attackers were shot dead by police at 10.16pm.
Eight minutes earlier the attackers had ploughed into crowds on London Bridge in a rented van, hitting at least 20 people, witnesses said.
The men then emerged with 12-inch knives before rampaging through Borough Market, stabbing people at random.
