Multiple media critics gave credit to the editing of Megyn Kelly’s interview with Alex Jones that aired Sunday night on NBC, according to The Washington Free Beacon.
The New York Times reported that NBC “re-edited Ms. Kelly’s segment throughout the week and have gambled millions of dollars on her success.”
The Free Beacon’s report said that a previous headline for that story had called the interview an “edited NBC interview, ” but took that word out later.
Before the interview aired, Kelly drew criticism, with some saying she was giving conservative commentator and conspiracy theorist Jones publicity, according to the Times report.
Jones said in the interview that he was a “devil’s advocate” for those who believe that the killings in 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School did not take place. Relatives of some of the victims also spoke in the Sunday segment on NBC.
The Kelly interview was a “heavily edited overview of who Jones is, ” according to New York Magazine.
Washington Post columnist Margaret Sullivan also noted the editing of the interview on her Twitter account.
Bottom line on NBC’s Alex Jones piece: Strong editing gave it an edge & made him look like a kook. Still a win for him; boosts his profile.
The interview with Jones was a “well-edited investigation, ” according to Matt Gertz, writing for Media Matters.
“Some thought we shouldn’t broadcast this interview because his baseless allegations aren’t just offensive, they’re dangerous. But here’s the thing: Alex Jones isn’t going away, ” Kelly said at the beginning of the NBC News interview.
