USB-C port and dedicated camera button confirmed
The Lumia 960 got leaked earlier this week in a bunch of photos allegedly showing an early prototype, and now new images coming from the same Chinese forum provides us with a closer look at this Windows phone that never got to see daylight.
Microsoft’s Lumia 960 was supposed to be a direct successor to the Lumia 950, though judging from these pictures, the phone looks substantially different, especially on the back where it’s more similar to an HTC model than to a typical Lumia.
The Lumia 960 was designed with a metallic body, and these pictures confirm that it came with USB-C fast charging, a port that was also being used on the Lumia 950 and which Microsoft refuses to use on the Surface device lineup because it thinks it’s not yet ready for prime time.
In addition, the photos also reveal a dedicated camera button, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack placed at the bottom of the phone for listening to music. And last but not least, there’s also a microSD card slot for expanding storage capacity.
Previous photos pointed to a 20-megapixel camera with triple LED flash and front-facing stereo speakers, so it’s very clear that Microsoft wanted the Lumia 960 to be a flagship device by all means.
Unfortunately, the HTC-like Lumia 960 never got a chance to hit the shelves, and although a reason is not known, it’s not hard to figure out that it all happened because Microsoft decided to reduce its focus on mobile. Windows 10 Mobile is no longer a priority for Microsoft, and new hardware is still uncertain, though the company reiterates its commitment to the platform on every occas ion.
For the moment, these pictures are all we got on the Lumia 960, and it goes without saying that you shouldn’t expect the device to launch.
