Redmond could be working on another backup tool
The Fall Creators Update is the next big milestone on the Windows 10 roadmap, and naturally, Microsoft is planning several major changes, including new features and improvements for the operating system.
One of the features that could go away with the release of the Fall Creators Update is File History, a built-in backup tool that’s been around since Windows 8.
The accidentally released Windows 10 build 16212 no longer includes File History, though it’s still possible to restore backups should any be available. Twitter user @h0x0d discovered that in this build “making new backups with File History is no longer supported, ” so Microsoft is making changes to the backup system available in the operating system.
Without a doubt, a backup option will definitely be offered to Windows 10 users, so the chances are that the company is working on something new that would show up in the coming builds.
At the same time, it’s also possible that Microsoft is experimenting with various changes, so until the company confirms the removal of File History, take this with a healthy pinch of salt.
Creating backups in Windows 10 is also possible with third-party software, and there are a lot of options in this regard, but it goes without saying that Microsoft wants to offer a built-in solution that would work smoothly for adopters of its operating system.
More information in this regard will certainly be available soon, especially after the company ships a new Windows 10 build which is expected to be newer than the 16212 that got the green light for public testers accidentally earlier this week.
Dona Sarkar, head of the Windows Insider program, said that no new builds would be coming this week, so after the build 16212 fiasco, expect a new release to take place in just a few days.
