Sen. Hirono Says Court Decision 'Hardly a Clear Victory' for Trump

The Supreme Court’s unanimous ruling to allow the partial implementation of President Donald Trump’s travel ban until the court hears the case in October was hardly a clear victory, as Trump claimed, Sen. Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, told MSNBC on Monday.
She also called conservative Supreme Court Justices Neil Gorsuch, Clarence Thomas, and Samuel Alito “the three horsemen of the apocalypse” who are “waiting for the fourth one to come along, ” after Thomas wrote an opinion, joined by Alito and Gorsuch, concurring in the decision to take the case, but dissenting in its lifting only part of the lower courts’ blockade of the ban.
“Neil Gorsuch, who I did not support as a Supreme Court justice, he’s joined two of the most conservative justices, Clarence Thomas and Alito, on the court to take the position the entire injunction should have been lifted, ” Hirono told MSNBC. “This is like the three horsemen of the apocalypse, and they’re waiting for the fourth one to come along so that they can go on their trend toward what I call extremism.”
She added “I’m not surprised at all that Neil Gorsuch is right in there with Thomas and Alito to pretty much tell the president, ‘you go right ahead, impose a Muslim ban.’ I’m glad the other justices are not there quite yet.”
There was speculation throughout the day whether Justice Anthony Kennedy was going to announce his retirement from the bench on the court’s last day of the term, opening up a second Supreme Court vacancy for Trump to fill, the Washington Examiner reported.
