O. J. Simpson lived in Florida before his robbery arrest, and he will be allowed to relocate as long as he has a supervision plan.
O. J. Simpson made his home in Florida before his arrest and conviction for the 2007 robbery of memorabilia dealers.
After Thursday’s decision by the Nevada parole board to grant Simpson’s release after nearly nine years in prison, the Sunshine State appears to be his desired landing spot when he’s released as early as Oct. 1. Simpson said during his hearing that he would like to return to Florida.
“We are aware of his potential relocation to Florida, ” Michelle Glady, spokesperson for the Florida Department of Corrections, said in a statement to USA TODAY Sports and other outlets. “Pursuant to the Interstate Commission on Adult Offender Supervision, if Nevada’s request meets all criteria, Florida must accept the transfer.”
Nevada Division of Parole and Probation Captain Shawn Arruti told reporters after the parole board’s decision that Simpson would be allowed to relocate “as long as there’s a valid plan of supervision along with a support system.”
Simpson, who was only visiting Las Vegas at the time of the robbery, said during the hearing that he’d like to reside in another state.
“I could easily stay in Nevada, but I don’ t think you guys want me here, ” Simpson said.
Glady called offender transfers between states a “routine procedure” in the statement.
“He will be assigned a Florida probation officer and will be supervised in accordance with the conditions of his parole, ” Glady said.
