Newly appointed White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci issued what appeared to be a warning to the press on Saturday, saying “gotcha” politics are over.
“The politics of “gotcha” are over. I have a thick skin and we’re moving on to [Trump’s] agenda serving the American people, ” Scaramucci tweeted.
Scaramucci’s tweet comes a day after he was appointed to the communications director post.
White House press secretary Sean Spicer resigned hours after Scaramucci was hired, and will be replaced by Sarah Huckabee Sanders when he officially leaves his post in August.
The White House grappled with a long, series of media reports surrounding the ongoing federal probe into alleged ties between the Trump administration and Russia.
Various members of the White House communication’s team have long claimed the news media has not spent enough time covering the president’s agenda, despite recent revelations from the Russia investigation.
In July, Trump’s deputy assistant Sebastian Gorka told CNN: “We are pushing the ‘Make America Great Again’ agenda, the president is a steam locomotive that cannot be stopped, it’s just fake news.”
And on Friday, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told Fox News: “It’s the rush to judgment. It’s the presumptive negativity that always follows this president and everyone around him.”
