No end in sight to shutdown which began on Tuesday, with 280 services a week affected
More than 280 ferry services a week between Hong Kong and the mainland Chinese city of Zhuhai have been suspended indefinitely after extensive damage caused by Typhoon Hato on Wednesday.
Jiuzhou Port, on the west side of the Pearl River Delta, announced an extension to the complete shutdown which began at 5pm on Tuesday, on a social media account. At least 40 ferry services a day run between the port and Hong Kong, with four more on Fridays and Sundays that run to an outside island under Zhuhai’s administration.
“Following the severe effects of Typhoon Hato, all ferry services from and to Jiuzhou Port are suspended, ” the notice said, adding it was unable to say when services would be resumed.
