'Step' movie review: A profoundly inspiring documentary

This profile of a Baltimore high school girls’ step dance team is sincere and compassionate.
On the other end of the academic spectrum is Cori Grainger, on track to be class valedictorian. She admits the aggressive shouting and rhythms of step dance stand in harsh contrast to her introverted personality. Her goal is to attend Johns Hopkins University on a full scholarship, which seems like fitting a plane through a pinhole – until we get to know her better. Cori’s stepfather lost his job, and she cries during an interview on her front porch after a bill goes unpaid, and the power company pulls the plug. It’s not the first time this has happened. She has learned not to get comfortable, she says, and our heart breaks for this sweet, smart young woman.
