If you are sick and tired of the mammoth smartphones of today, there is potentially good news coming your way. Apple is reportedly planning to launch the second generation iPhone SE early next year. The iPhone SE, which was launched in March 2016 is now becoming a little old in the tooth. Many Apple fans still believe that the iPhone SE – with its 4-inch screen – is the perfect size for a smartphone.
The latest rumours claim that Apple will launch the iPhone SE sometime in the first three months of 2018. Ever since Apple started manufacturing the iPhone SE in India, it has gone on to become one of the most popular iPhones in the country. Earlier reports claimed that the iPhone SE sequel will start shipping in Q1 2018 and will be manufactured by Wistron, which is the same company that assembles the iPhone SE in India.
The report also asserted that Apple’s decision to go ahead with a new iPhone SE has a lot to do with the smartphone’s success in India and the company’s bid to double its market share in the country in the next five years.
The iPhone SE 2, which is expected to be manufactured in India, is expected to be powered by the Apple A10 chipset found in the iPhone 7. The iPhone SE in comparison has the Apple A9 processor. Design wise, it is extremely unlikely that Apple will equip the iPhone SE with an edge-to-edge display. Either an iPhone 7/8 like design or a continuation of the same iPhone 5s design seems most likely.
The iPhone SE 2 is expected to stick with a 4-inch display. However, some rumours do claim that Apple might bump up the screen slightly to 4.2-inches. It is also expected to come with 32/128GB of internal storage and a 1,700mAh battery.
