The San Francisco Giants, owners of the worst offense in Major League Baseball, had the best hitter at his position. For the fourth time in his career, Buster Posey won the Silver Slugger Award.
Posey hit .320/.400/.462 — all tops among qualified catchers in the National League — over 140 games in the 2017 season. He also had the highest WAR, according to Fangraphs.
The one area he lagged his opposition was in home runs. Posey had 12, which is worse than nine of his counterparts.
Posey played 38 games as a first baseman in 2017 and another seven as the Giants’ designated hitter. He was also a finalist to win a Gold Glove Award, but lost to the Cincinnati Reds’ Tucker Barnhart.
