A fifth man has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of an aide to Gov. Cuomo during J’Ouvert 2015.
Stanley Elianor, 26, pleaded “not guilty” Wednesday to second-degree murder related the death of lawyer Carey Gabay, who was shot in the head when crossfire erupted around him in the early morning hours of Labor Day.
Gabay, 43, died days later in the hospital.
The Brooklyn District Attorneys office has since indicted four men believed to have been involved in the shootout that killed the Harvard-educated attorney, though investigators believe at least eight guns were involved in the shootout.
Elianor, who has a lengthy criminal history, was previously indicted on weapons possession charges.
“We have made a promise to the family of Carey Gabay to hold accountable everyone who took part in the shootout that took his life,” DA-elect Eric Gonzalez said in a statement. “With this indictment, we have taken another step in keeping this promise and we will not rest until every person who brazenly fired a gun during that devastating incident – creating a killing field amid a crowded celebration – is brought to justice.”
Elianor will return to court Jan. 10. His co-defendants’ cases are pending.
