La Tocada Music Fest brings Mexican rock greats to Anaheim Nov. 25.
As far as festivals go, La Tocada Fest may not be the biggest. It’s only got a handful of bands on the bill for the Nov. 25 concert.
But what the festival lacks in size it makes up for in Mexico City street cred, because it’s anchored by some of the most significant and pioneering bands to come out of that city’s vibrant rock and fusion scene.
Covering genres including straight-up rock, ska, hip-hop and other sounds, here’s a rundown of the respected Mexican rockers performing at La Tocada.
El Tri
Led by singer Alex Lora, these veteran rockers have been around for decades and are widely regarded as one of the most influential bands in the Mexican rock scene.
El Tri’s musical style varies from straight up rock to more blues-oriented tunes, but always cemented by Lora’s wonderfully raspy voice.
Expect the crowd to go wild when the band plays it massive hit “Triste Cancion de Amor.”
It’s the song everyone will be singing along to.
Maldita Vecindad
Formed in 1985, this Mexico City band earned a passionate following as one of the first to fuse rock, ska and Mexican folk sounds with a whole lot of attitude.
There’s probably going to be a very energetic mosh pit when the band performs “Pachuco,” and a passionate sing-a-long when they play “Solin,” both from the band’s memorable 1991 album “Circus.”
Panteón Rococó
This Mexico City-born ska-fusion band has logged almost 20 world tours since forming 22 years ago.
The Anaheim show is the final stop in the band’s 14-city U. S tour dubbed “No Wall.”
From here they return to the recording studio to work on a new album, but at Tocada they’ll move the crowd with classic hits like “Ven Ven Ven,” and “Borracho.”
Molotov
Alt rock will meet rap when Molotov take the stage, and you can expect to hear a lot of songs from the band’s groundbreaking 1997 album “Donde Jugaran las Ninas,” since Molotov is on tour to mark its 20-year anniversary.
Also on the lineup are Spanish bands Mago de Oz and Angeles del Infierno.
