The Golden Joystick Awards 2017 were hosted earlier today at the Bloomsbury Big Top in London, where the vibrant team-based first-person shooter received multiple esports-related honors in different categories.
Overwatch beat League of Legends for the “Esports Game of the Year” award. Lunatic-Hai, currently operating under the name of Seoul Dynasty in the Overwatch League, won the “Esports Team of the Year” award. In addition, Brady “Agilities” Girardi from the Overwatch team LA Valiant secured the “Esports Play of the Year” award.
Overwatch cleaned up the Golden Joystick Awards last year. It was nominated in eight categories, out of which it won in five. The honors included the “Best Multiplayer Game, Best Original Game, PC Game of the Year, and Competitive Game of the Year” awards.
Take note that the game has also been nominated for “Best Esports Game” in The Game Awards 2017 next month. Je-hong “ryujehong” Ryu from Seoul Dynasty is up for “Best Esports Player” and Lunatic-Hai for “Best Esports Team” awards.
Having commenced with the new competitive season, Blizzard is now preparing for the pre-season of Overwatch League next month. The developer also confirmed this week that it plans to take full advantage of the powerful Xbox One X hardware by adding enhancements for an impressive run at 4K resolution.
