The White House has told Federal Reserve governor Jerome Powell that President Trump plans to name him the next chair of the central bank, The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.
Trump had settled on Powell by Saturday and called him on Tuesday, sources told the paper.
Neither Powell nor current Fed Chair Janet Yellen commented.
If confirmed by the Senate, Powell would succeed Yellen, whose four-year term as chief expires in February.
