Far Cry 5 Delayed Alongside Two Other Ubisoft Games

Ubisoft delays Far Cry 5 and two other games as a result of Assassin’s Creed Origins’ success, as it wants to give developers more time to express their vision.
Taking players to Montana where they will fight a cult, Far Cry 5 is one incredibly ambitious open-world game. However, fans will have to wait a little longer to take part in the action, as the game has just been delayed.
Far Cry 5 was initially slated to release on February 27,2018, but in a brief update issued today, Ubisoft confirmed that the game has suffered a slight delay. The game will now be releasing on PC, PS4, and Xbox One a month later on March 27,2018.
The delay is not so severe, and there’s currently no indication that Far Cry 5 will end up being pushed back as many times as other Ubisoft games such as South Park: The Fractured But Whole and The Division. Instead, this delay is just being issued in order to “make some additional improvements that will bring the best, most ambitious Far Cry experience in line with the team’s original vision.” Ubisoft also confirms that more Far Cry 5 gameplay footage will be revealed tomorrow.
Unfortunately for fans of Ubisoft titles, Far Cry 5 is not the only game that is mentioned in the delay update. Ubisoft also confirms that its open-world racer, The Crew 2, is being pushed back. The game was set to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 16,2018, but Ubisoft now says that the game will be released in the first half of Fiscal 2018-19, though a specific date was not given.
Ubisoft adds that The Crew 2 developer Ivory Tower will “use the next several months to perform additional playtests, gather player feedback, and continue working towards delivering an ambitious open-world racing experience that meets the team’s and our players’ expectations.” Given that The Crew 2 gameplay involves quickly switching in between vehicles on land, air, and sea, it’s understandable why the developer might need more time to get everything in working order.
In addition to these postponements, a third Ubisoft game has also been delayed. This game, which is described as “one of three unannounced franchise games initially planned for release in Fiscal 2018-19” will now be released in Fiscal 2019-20. Ubisoft has an awful lot of franchises, from Assassin’s Creed to South Park, and from Beyond Good and Evil to the many Tom Clancy games (e.g. Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell), so this unannounced title could be just about anything.
Interestingly, Ubisoft explains that the delays of these games is partly due to the success of Assassin’s Creed Origins. Ubisoft notes that the decision to delay that game allowed the development team to “fully express their creative vision,” and that paid off in terms of critical and commercial success. Fingers crossed that Far Cry 5 and the other two games will benefit from being delayed as much as the latest Assassin’s Creed did.
Far Cry 5 is now set to release on March 27,2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
