“It was just a horrific accident. A horrific accident.”
An Alabama family is in mourning after the tragic shooting death of a 22-year-old man who was killed by his own father after being mistaken for a thief.
The family of Logan Trammell say he was driving away from his parent’s home just before midnight on Christmas Eve in one of his father’s vehicles, WIAT reports .
Logan’s father, who was recording music in his camper next to the house, was unaware that his son was borrowing his truck.
Fearing his car was in the process of being stolen, the father yelled out and fired a warning shot in the air, trying to get the driver’s attention.
When that didn’t work, he shot at the tailgate of his vehicle, causing the vehicle to suddenly stop.
It was not until Logan’s father got the door open and saw who the driver was that he realized he had shot and killed his own son.
Logan, who like his father was a singer and songwriter with dreams of being a country music star, did not normally live with his parents and the family thought he was in bed.
“It was just a horrific accident. A horrific accident,” Logan’s aunt Tammy Jacobs told WIAT, “My brother thought someone was stealing his truck, never realizing it was Logan because he didn’t live down here all the time, he lived with my mom and dad.”
The Cullman County Sheriff’s office told WIAT they are investigating the shooting.
Funeral services for Logan Trammell have not been announced.
