At Microsoft’s Everyday AI event they announced a number of new features coming to Bing and Cortana and Office, all driven by their AI advances.
One interesting new Bing feature will be automatically displaying multiple viewpoints for controversial searches such as “is cholesterol bad for you?” culled from a number of recognized news sources, in an effort to break user’s filter bubble and expose them to other points of view.
Bing will also soon help users craft their searches better prompting them to supply more information to narrow down their results. It will also offer a more powerful image search, being able to recognize and search specific objects in a photo.
Lastly, Bing will be indexing Reddit’s data, surfacing information about subreddits and extracting useful data from AMAs.
Cortana will soon be able to sort your mail and provide summaries of the most important ones. Microsoft is also adding a “skills chaining” feature, where for example Cortana will be able to book tickets, and then use that information to add the date to a user’s calendar.
Microsoft’s AI will also invade their Office products, for example analyzing Excel spreadsheets to create pivot tables, charts and automatically offer other easy-to-digest analytical information.
Word Online in turns will get a tool called Acronyms to help users find definitions of company-specific acronyms automatically. Another new feature called Tap will help users find relevant documents, spreadsheets and more without leaving word.
All these smarts are driven by Microsoft’s AI cloud called Project Brainwave. The new features should roll out over the next few weeks to months.
