OTTAWA COUNTY, MI — On Thursday, Dec. 7, Ottawa County traffic services had taken 51 property damage crashes by 10:30 a.m., according to sheriff’s Sgt. Steve Austin.
Eight of those crashes resulted in injured persons, according to police. The snow-covered roads also led to 23 slide-offs with no damage.
Austin said the majority of the crashes occurred in Georgetown Township and Jamestown Township.
Earlier in the morning, a section of 8th Avenue in Hudsonville was closed for more than an hour between Greenly and Riley streets while crews worked to clear the scene of eight individual crashes, WOOD-TV reported. Eight crashes led to the road closure.
Thursday morning marked the first significant snowfall in the Grand Rapids area for a morning commute. It produced much slower speeds for motorists heading to work.
