We are definitely in an active storm track now.
We are definitely in an active storm track now. The next snow system is already going to hit Michigan Wednesday, December 13,2017. This next storm system will affect a slightly larger area of southern Michigan compared to Monday’s light snow.
Above is the radar forecast for 1 p.m. December 13,2017. I want to show you the storm system will be traveling across the southern half of Lower Michigan.
Here’s a quick look at how the snow will travel across Michigan on Wednesday.
The image just above shows you how much new snow is expected by 7 a.m. Wednesday, December 13,2017. The next snow maker will just be moving into the western part of Lower Michigan at sunrise Wednesday.
By 1 p.m. Wednesday, western Lower Michigan including Grand Rapids, Ludington, and Manistee should have 2″ or 3″ of new snow. Lighter amounts of 1″ to 2″ could be as far east as Lansing and Jackson. Light snow will just be starting in southeast Michigan.
Alberta Clipper snow systems are fast movers. The widespread snow will generally be over by 7 p.m. Wednesday. The last image above is the total new snowfall expected through 7 p.m. Wednesday. This graphic represents the total snow from this next weather system. I’d call it a 2″ to 4″ snow across the southern half of Lower Michigan. The snow may be a little heavier the farther west you are in Lower Michigan where there may be a few spots with 5″ of snow.
One interesting situation to watch is the snow to water ratio. What I’m showing you is a forecast with 10 inches of snow equalling one inch of water. In a colder snow system like Wednesday’s, we could have a 15 inches to one inch of water ratio. If this happens, the snow would be fluffier and bring us an extra 1″ to 2″ of snow.
Here we go with another widespread snow in southern Lower. It’s still not a big snowstorm, but it will cover the roads and increase our chances for a white Christmas.
