He and his wife denied the claims
A former girlfriend of T. J. Miller has come forward with allegations against the “Silicon Valley” star claiming he sexually assaulted and beat her while they were dating in college.
Miller’s girlfriend, who chose to remain anonymous, came forward with her account from her time with Miller at George Washington in a story published by The Daily Beast on Tuesday.
“He just tried a lot of things without asking me, and at no point asked me if I was all right,” she revealed. “He choke[d] me, and I kept staring at his face hoping he would see that I was afraid and [that he] would stop… I couldn’t say anything.”
The unnamed woman, referred to as “Sarah” by The Daily Beast also claimed that Miller once punched her in the face when they were “fooling around.” She had a fractured tooth and a bloodied lip the following morning, but when she asked Miller what had happened he told her she fell down drunk the following evening.
It took Miller’s alleged victim about a year to seek help from campus police and years to reveal her account publicly, despite remaining anonymous.
“I was not ready to process what was happening [the prior year], and I have spent a lot of time in my life apologizing for not having shouted ‘no,’ and for not having told my roommates to get him out of here,” she said, explaining why it took her so long to come forward. “I was not ready to reconcile the events taking place with the person I had known. It was so disorienting and so physically traumatic.”
Miller and his wife Kate denied the unnamed woman’s account in a statement to The Daily Beast and played victim to the claims.
“We met this woman over a decade ago while studying together in college, she attempted to break us up back then by plotting for over a year before making contradictory claims and accusations,” the Millers wrote.
“She was asked to leave our university comedy group because of worrisome and disturbing behavior, which angered her immensely, she then became fixated on our relationship, and began telling people around campus ‘I’m going to destroy them’ and ‘I’m going to ruin him,’” they continued.
The Millers also claimed that these rumors began to circulate online once they became a couple and they believe that the unnamed woman is trying to capitalize on the wave of sexual misconduct allegations that have swept across Hollywood in the wake of the Weinstein allegations.
“Sadly she is now using the current climate to bandwagon and launch these false accusations again,” the Millers wrote. “It is unfortunate that she is choosing this route as it undermines the important movement to make women feel safe coming forward about legitimate claims against real known predators.”
Of course, Miller’s alleged victim rejected their response and believes it’s “unfathomable” that Miller doesn’t realize the pain that he’s caused her over the years.
“He was a friend to me before [the incidents], and he had been there for me before that,” she said. “I didn’t want him in jail. I didn’t hate him. He was someone I cared about… I don’t want to mess up his life. But he behaved in a way towards me that I have to live with… [and] I don’t think it’s appropriate that I carry this by myself.”
“It is unfathomable to me that he doesn’t understand that he actually put me through something I have to live with, that I never would’ve chosen, that completely, completely set the tone for my sexual adult life, that I actively had to spend years and years… un-programming.”
