You can find sometimes find interesting things when digging around software. It appears that telephoto and wide-angle camera support has been discovered in the latest Android 8.0 beta for the Nokia 5.
It was only a few months ago when HMD Global promised that it would be updating all of its Nokia handsets to Android Oreo. The firm has offered early access to Android 8.0 through its beta program, which was first made available for the Nokia 8. A day or so ago, the beta was released for the Nokia 5 and, while that might not seem special, it looks like some people have been rummaging through the code, and have discovered an interesting feature that could arrive on a future handset.
According to the folks at Nokiamob, in the beta software for the Nokia 5, there looks to be a different kind of camera menu, that can be discovered when you dig into the camera APK file. The menu shows off a telephoto mode with 2x optical zoom and also a wide angle mode. There are also options to control the shutter speed and ISO. What makes this discovery interesting is that the fact that current Nokia cameras with dual sensors, like the Nokia 8, have a secondary monochrome sensor, not a wide angle. This option found in the software could be an indication of what is to come with a future handset.
Naturally, we won’t know until HMD Global announces something new, but there is the chance that nothing will come of this and it is just a remnant from past code development.
