If you were hoping to get a look at Samsung’s upcoming flagship Galaxy phone during CES 2018 next month, we have some bad news. Sources claim Samsung will be showing off some of its phones at the event in January, as well as LG, but the showcase will involve “low-end” handsets. That will include the Samsung A8 and A8 Plus 2018 models, both rumored to feature the long Infinity Display and certain Bixby functions. The Galaxy S9 is another matter.
Last month, a report surfaced claiming that Samsung would in some way introduce the Galaxy S9 at CES 2018, an exciting prospect that was hard to believe. It only took a couple weeks for Samsung to dash those hopes, for the most part, telling a Korean newspaper that it is “unlikely” it will show off its upcoming Galaxy flagship at the tech event. However, the way it was phrased left a sliver of possibility.
The latest report out of Korea, though, via etnews, claims that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ phones won’t be shown off at CES 2018, nor will LG’s upcoming LG G7 smartphone. Instead, sources say that both companies will be showing off lower-end phones, including the Samsung Galaxy A8 and A8 Plus 2018 models.
Both phones have been leaked multiple times, with rumors pointing toward the use of an Infinity Display. According to these sources, the new A8 phones will have Bixby Home and Bixby Remind, but will lack Bixby Voice. Both will reportedly also feature USB-C and fingerprint sensors, as well as a 3.5mm audio jack and functions like “Split” and “Pop-Up View.”
Sources say these will be the first A8 models to feature 6-inch displays, overall hinting that they’ll be great Galaxy S8 alternatives for those who don’t want to spend too much. Meanwhile, the report also claims that LG will be showing off its K-Series smartphones during CES 2018, and that they’ll be the first of the maker’s phones in that tier to include LG Pay.
The sources say the K10 model in particular will pack a 5.3-inch Full HD display alongside 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. As for the Galaxy S9 and the LG G7, sources say we can expect to see those at Mobile World Congress 2018.
