Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Thursday that offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will return for a second season with the team.
Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn confirmed on Thursday that offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will return for a second season with the team.
Sarkisian received much of the fans’ criticism for the team’s decline in offensive production, one season after the Falcons ranked first in scoring (33.8 points), second in yards per game (415.8) and reached the Super Bowl under Kyle Shanahan .
Under the 43-year-old Sarkisian’s watch, Atlanta finished 15th in scoring (22.1), slipped to 364.8 yards per game and lost in the NFC divisional round of the playoffs to the Philadelphia Eagles last weekend. The Falcons scored only 10 points against the Eagles, were shut out in the second half and failed to convert after having first-and-goal from the 9-yard line at the end of the game.
“Placing blame on one person would be wrong in this instance,” Quinn said on Thursday. “If this was about one person, that decision would’ve already been made.”
The Falcons hired Sarkisian to replace Shanahan after the latter was named head coach of the San Francisco 49ers last February.
