Motorist killed in I-94 crash was South Carolina resident, police say

A South Carolina man died Friday morning when he rear-ended a semitrailer on I-94, police say.
PARMA TWP., MI – A South Carolina man died Friday morning when he rear-ended a semitrailer on I-94, police say.
The 58-year-old man was driving at about 10:12 a.m., Jan. 19, on eastbound I-94 when he collided with a semitrailer in front of him near the Concord Road exit, according to a Michigan State Police statement.
The front end of the vehicle was forced under the back of the trailer up to the driver’s seat. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s name has not yet been released as police said they are still working to confirm his family has been notified.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, police said. The man was the only occupant in the car and no other injuries were reported, they said.
The right lane leading up to the crash, as well as the exit ramp were closed while rescue crews worked the scene. The highway and exit have been fully reopened, according to the Michigan Department of Transportation.
Michigan State Police still are investigating the crash. Parma-Sandstone Fire and Jackson Community Ambulance assisted at the scene.
