The Last of Us is one of the best games of the last generation of consoles and was directed by Bruce Straley, who left as the development of Uncharted 4 began and now the developer has explained why he left Naughty Dog and why he isn’t working on the Last Of Us 2.
Speaking with Kotaku, The Last of Us director explained that the reason why he left Naughty Dog was Uncharted 4. According to Straley, he left the studio because of the stress and pressure that Uncharted 4’s development brought.
He added that he felt that the development of Uncharted 4 was more of an obligation rather than being a passion project.
“Uncharted 4 showed up and it was like, I guess there’s a difference between doing something for yourself which feels passionate and I had my own theories that I was trying to expand upon between Uncharted 1,2, and The Last of Us and then Uncharted 4 became more like, ‘How do I do this for the team and for the company?”
The Last Of Us 2 is currently in development at Naughty Dog and sadly Bruce Straley is no longer working on the upcoming title.
The Last Of Us 2 was announced back in 2016 at Sony’s PSX, however, no release date has been announced for the game since then. But, the game’s composer has hinted at the release date.
Game’s composer Gustavo Santaolalla revealed in an interview that his work on The Last Of Us 2 will complete by 2019 and this is probably when the game will release.
He noted that “A project like this usually takes at least 2 years to make. I’ve been working on it now for about a year and after my last concert at the 28th of October, I will be traveling to L.A. to keep working on the game”.
Also, the game is being co-written by Halley Gross who is known for her work on the hit HBO series, Westworld. Neil Druckmann confirmed that Westworld writer will be co-writing the upcoming The Last Of Us 2.
