Wendell, N. C. — A woman died Monday when her car crashed into a pond in Wake County.
Video recorded from Sky5 showed a red car upside down in the freezing cold water while rescue crews chipped away at ice to reach the victim. According to officials, it appears the car went off the road and flipped into the creek located on Robertson Pond Road.
The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating, but no details have been released on when the wreck happened, what caused it or if there were any other victims.
About 1.5 miles of the road was blocked near Wendell High School as crews worked the scene.
