Before President Trump Even Spoke at the National Prayer Breakfast, CNN Made It All About Russia

“Approximately 55 are coming from Russia…”
On Thursday morning, President Donald Trump was on hand to deliver remarks at the annual National Prayer Breakfast held at the Washington Hilton.
Also in attendance were nearly 4,000 religious leaders from all over the world — but CNN’s focus leading up to the breakfast was on a particular group of about 60 people who were also slated to attend the event:

CNN reported:
A. Larry Ross, a spokesman at the Fellowship Foundation, told CNN, “I can confirm that this year, the Breakfast will be attended by more than 3,800 individuals representing over 130 countries and territories around the world. Approximately 55 are coming from Russia, including a group of 35 young professionals — millennial doctors, lawyers and business leaders in their 20s and 30s — invited out of a context of relationship and faith.”
Most of the Russians set to attend the event were there for religious reasons rather than political, however, according to Bishop Konstantin Bendas of the Russian Union of Christians of the Evangelical Faith:
“It’s the right time for believers — Christian people — to unite for at least a day, bend the knee and pray for peace and unity without politics.”
Bendas did admit that there was probably a number of those within the Russian delegation who were attending in the hopes of earning a measure of good will to defend against possible future sanctions.
A number of Russians who did receive invitations opted not to attend, reportedly in protest of the list of Kremlin officials and oligarchs that was recently published by the White House — and the Russian government did not send any official delegation.
