The annual event has raised more than $750,000 for food pantries in the past nine years.
MUSKEGON, MI – Normally sold out in a jiffy, tickets are still available for some showings of Dancing with the Local Stars 2018 in Muskegon.
The event expanded this year from one weekend to two, with six shows instead of four. Tickets are still available for opening night, Friday, Feb. 16, and for Thursday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 24. To purchase tickets, call 231-798-4244.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the show will bring back more than 60 stars from the first nine years who will dance in teams under the theme “Anything Goes.”
“We are really working hard to treat this year as a celebratory reunion versus a competition,” said Christina Fecher, of the Women’s Division Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the event. “We really have reason to celebrate because this event has generated more than $755,000 for food pantries in our community over the past 9 years. This event is a true testament to the generosity that resides here in Muskegon.”
The event raises money for food pantries and programs in Muskegon, Oceana and Ottawa counties. A record $126,000 was raised in 2017.
However, the teams will still compete for two awards: Best of Show and People’s Choice. Those will be announced at the end of each show. Previously, there was a nightly critic’s choice award and an overall best costume award.
“The routines are fun, creative, and full of energy,” said Fecher, who will also dance as a star this year. “They are mostly freestyle routines, but the audience will definitely see some fun ballroom or specific-era dance steps throughout. The audience will not be disappointed this year.”
DWTLS 2018 was originally going to feature nine teams of star dancers led by one or two pros, but when pro Sean France was injured his team was dispersed among the others.
