Rain will start around 9 p.m. and last into the early morning hours of Sunday, WRAL meteorologist Mike Maze said
“From 11 p.m. until 3 or 4 a.m., that would be the time period that we’ll have that (thunderstorm) threat,” Maze said.
Maze warns that the storm could bring damaging winds, hail and lighting, and recommends that people and pets remain indoors tonight if possible.
“This doesn’t look like a tornado threat,” Maze said. “Just more of a straight-line wind damage event. But there is some potential for some large hail.”
Sunday brings a brief chance for rain or drizzle in the early morning, mainly east of the Triangle, then decreasing cloudiness. It will be dry for the bulk of the day.
Highs will stay in the upper 50s north to mid-60s south.
The rain will return early next week.
“We’re going to be using our umbrellas this week,” Maze said.
Monday will be cloudy with a few patches of rain or rain showers possible. The day will be cooler with highs in the lower 50s.
Tuesday will be cloudy, breezy and cool with a chance of showers. Highs will be in the low 50s.
Wednesday brings rain and chilly temperatures again. High only reach the 40s.
The WRAL Weather team is watching a “complex pattern for mid-week that shows some signs of bringing a chance of wintry precipitation later Tuesday night or possibly Wednesday.”
Thursday and Friday will be sunny again with temperatures in the low 50s.
