Defense Department Identifies Soldier Killed By IED Attack in Syria

“Dunbar was assigned to Headquarters, U. S. Army Special Operations Command, Ft Bragg, North Carolina.”
The Department of Defense (DOD) identified the U. S. Army soldier who was killed by an improvised explosive attack in Syria.
“Master Sgt. Johnathan J. Dunbar, 36, of Austin, Texas, died March 30 in Manbij, Syria as a result of injuries when an improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near his patrol,” the DOD stated in a press release. “The incident is under investigation.”

“Dunbar was assigned to Headquarters, U. S. Army Special Operations Command, Ft Bragg, North Carolina,” it added.

Dunbar was not the only coalition service member to die in the IED attack, as a member of the elite British Special Air Service also perished.
Sgt. Matt Tonroe, 33, was killed after serving in the British military for 13 years and is the first casualty from the British military in Syria, according to Manchester Evening News.
