Square Enix actually made the crackers jobs easier
Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition is published by the Square Enix and is using Denuvo to protect the game against cracking. That’s all well and good, and the community knew about this fact for a while now. It’s also not a surprise since Denuvo protects all of the Square Enix games.
What’s interesting about this particular launch is the fact that Square Enix decided to release a demo, ahead of the official PC launch, and this is where things started to get complicated. Since Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition is a massive game, the also publisher allowed users to preload the files so they won’t wait on launch day.
If you’re familiar with the gaming scene, you might have heard about 3DM, a Chinese cracking group that had some hit and misses over the years. They were among the first to crack Denuvo a couple of years ago, but they faded out from the spotlight since then.
Now, they returned to a supposedly crack for Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition, ahead of the official launch. As it turns out, the fact that there is a crack out there is a just a conjuncture of poor decision making from Square Enix and a cracking group that figured that out.
It turns out that the EXE file for the demo was no protected by Denuvo at all, and on top of that the files usually available for preload were not encrypted. Things have changed in the meantime, but it’s not too late. Reddit users are reporting the full game is playable, far beyond the chapters that were available in the Demo.
Final Fantasy 15 Windows Edition is launching today, on Steam and Origin .
