On Friday, 23-year-old Frederick Demond Scott, who was already charged with the murder of three people in Kansas City, was indicted in the deaths of three more people.
Scott allegedly threatened to “kill all white people” while at an alternative school in January 2014, according to a municipal citation for harassment. A suspected motive for the killings has not been released yet.
Scott allegedly shot four of his male victims near hiking trails and another as he was walking home from the bus. A female victim was homeless and her body was found rotting in a tent in the woods.
One of the victim’s daughter’s explained:
“We’re thankful that he is off the street and hopefully he’ll be held accountable for what he has done. I don’t know for me personally that there is any closure. Nothing can bring my dad back and nothing can take that pain away, but at least knowing that the person responsible will be held accountable, it will certainly be helpful.”
Scott’s mother previously told The Kansas City Star that he was schizophrenic. Scott was ultimately caught when surveillance video caught him following one of his victims and detectives were able to trace a DNA sample back to him.
