The latest Monster Hunter continues to crush its competition
Monster Hunter: World has shipped over 7.5 million units worldwide, Capcom has announced, making it the best-selling game in the company’s history.
Monster Hunter: World is “the first title in the series to be given a global simultaneous launch, and was given an ambitious worldwide promotional campaign in order to further build upon its fan base both in Japan and in markets overseas,” said Capcom in a news release.
That number is a bit tricky to break down, since Capcom is specifying that it’s counting games that were shipped to retailers, not sold through to players. The release does goes on to state that the game has 7 million players worldwide, so there doesn’t seem to be a huge difference between the number of units shipped and the number sold. The 7.5 million achievement also includes “digital download sales.”
The Windows PC version of the game has yet to be released — it’s coming out this fall — so Monster Hunter: World is breaking records even before it’s available on all platforms. This number only includes the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game.
