March 9 (UPI) — Barack Obama, former President of the United States, reportedly is in advanced talks with Netflix to produce and possibly appear in future television projects.
The New York Times said the potential deal means Netflix would pay Obama and his wife, Michelle, for exclusive content that would be available exclusively via the global streaming service.
“President and Mrs. Obama have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire,” Eric Schultz, a senior adviser to the former president, said Thursday. “Throughout their lives, they have lifted up stories of people whose efforts to make a difference are quietly changing the world for the better. As they consider their future personal plans, they continue to explore new ways to help others tell and share their stories.”
Apple and Amazon, which have their own streaming services, have also expressed interest in collaborating with the Obamas, the newspaper reported.
CNN said Netflix declined to comment on the possible “production partnership,” which could see Obama moderating panel discussions and/or producing a series that spotlights heartwarming, American stories.
