A recent report suggests that an Android Oreo-based update for the Galaxy Note8 has been released to at least one U. S. carrier and that it will likely roll out to Snapdragon-powered devices soon.
After Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ finally began receiving the Android Oreo 8.0 update via OTA in February, it looks like the next phone in line to receive the update is the Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered Galaxy Note8, at least in the U. S., according to a report on XDA Developers. Though reports of at least one Exynos powered Note8 receiving the Oreo update was spotted back in January, there is no information of the update for those devices yet.
The report states that though the build has not been officially pushed by Samsung, it was released onto AT&T servers. It has also been certified by Google and has passed SafetyNet assessment, ensuring that apps such as Google Pay will work securely on the device.
Further, per the report, the update is currently for the Snapdragon-powered versions of the device, reinforcing that it must be for the devices sold in the U. S. As with the Galaxy S8 and S8+, the update for Galaxy Note8 will bring, along with other features, improvements to the keyboard, lock-screen and always-on display improvements, picture-in-picture mode, under the hood fixes, and many more updates with the latest version of its UI, Samsung Experience 9.0.
This build is likely to be pushed out by carriers soon, notes the report. In case you do not want to wait to receive the update through the carrier, a detailed guide has been posted on XDA Developers to install the update manually. However, we do not encourage you to do so if you are not well versed with the steps and risks involved.
