The first look of Renée Zellweger as Judy Garland in the upcoming movie “Judy” is out — and the web is buzzing about the uncanny movie makeover.
“Truly remarkable,” unrecognizable” and “completely embodies Judy” are a few of the breathless responses to seeing Zellweger, who won an Oscar for “Cold Mountain,” transformed by her costume, makeup and wig as Garland, a two-time Oscar nominee.
The movie written by Tom Edge (“The Crown”) and directed by Rupert Goold, follows the legendary — and famously troubled — performer as she arrives in London in the winter of 1968 to perform a series of sold-out concerts.

Garland would be dead from an overdose six months later.
It promises meaty material, as well as singing, which Zellweger did in “Chicago.”
Garland has remained of enduring interest since her death in 1969 at age 47.
Peter Quilter’s play “End of the Rainbow, ” seen on Broadway in 2012, offered its own jacked-up portrait of Garland near the end of her life.

“Judy” is filming now in London.
Two years ago, Zellweger’s apperanced sparked stories. She slammed ones alleging that she no longer looked like herself and must have had plastic surgery.
“Not that it’s anyone’s business,” she wrote in the Huffington Post, “but I did not make a decision to alter my face and have surgery on my eyes.”
