The deadly shooting started out as a vehicle pursuit Friday night by Pomona officers about 30 miles east of Los Angeles.
Two officers were shot – one fatally – by a gunman who after more than a dozen hours remained barricaded Saturday in southern California, officials said.
The deadly shooting started out as a vehicle pursuit Friday night by Pomona officers about 30 miles east of Los Angeles. But after the suspect crashed, he ran into a unit at an apartment complex and fired several rounds through a door, police told the Los Angeles Times.
Two officers were hit. The incident led to a massive law enforcement response that lasted overnight and well into Saturday as authorities and SWAT officers worked to end the situation.
The officer was identified Saturday afternoon by the Los Angeles County coroner’s office as 30-year-old Gregory Casillas, of Upland, according to the Associated Press .
After the shooting, photos and video surfaced on local media showed officers doing CPR for someone lying in the street.

Pomona Police Chief Mike Olivieri provided grim updates over Twitter, posting: “It is with a heavy heart that I must report that one officer did not survive.”
He added the second officer wounded was in stable condition.
Dozens of law enforcement vehicles lined the streets during a somber morning procession for Casillas. Fellow officers saluted as his body was taken by a coroner.
Casillas is the 16th law enforcement officer who was shot and killed this year, according to The Officer Down Memorial Page, which tracks such deaths.
