President Donald Trump jokingly suggested Saturday shrinking the press corps to a small number of Fox News hosts, so the administration could cut down its carbon footprint during flight travel.
Trump criticized the press for contributing to global warming during a Saturday night white-tie banquet called the Gridiron. One way to reduce carbon emissions contributing to climate change, he said, is to shrink the overall size of the press that follows Trump around.
“We’re going to reduce the carbon footprint when we travel by shrinking the press pool, so we only have room for Sean Hannity, Lou Dobbs and Judge Jeanine,” said Trump, who laid bare most of his apparent pent-up frustrations regarding the media’s treatment of his administration thus far.
There were no cameras allowed at the banquet – one man “wearing the requisite Gridiron white tie stopped two of the 600 attendees from recording on their phone,” according to the White House pool report.

“I’m a New York icon. You’re a New York icon. And the only difference is I still own my buildings,” Trump said, apparently referring to TheNYT’s decision in 2009 to sell a large portion of its enterprise to Mexican telecommunications billionaire Carlos Slim.
TheNYT and other media outlets have continually bludgeoned Trump — who once suggested during the presidential election that climate change is a “hoax” — for not taking seriously the threat stemming from global warming.
