Trump's DOJ Follows Through on Threat, Drops the Hammer on California's Sanctuary Cities

“I believe that we are going to win.”
The U. S. Department of Justice plans to file a federal lawsuit against California and its top officials after the state passed so-called “sanctuary” laws to undermine federal immigration policies and U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
According to a prepared speech, Attorney General Jeff Sessions will make an official announcement of the federal action on Wednesday:
“The Department of Justice and the Trump administration are going to fight these unjust, unfair and unconstitutional policies that have been imposed on you.
We are fighting to make your jobs safer and to help you reduce crime in America. And I believe that we are going to win.”
California Gov. Jerry Brown, a Democrat, responded to the announcement on Twitter claiming that Sessions will “further divide and polarize America”:
At a time of unprecedented political turmoil, Jeff Sessions has come to California to further divide and polarize America. Jeff, these political stunts may be the norm in Washington, but they don’t work here. SAD!!!

The announcement comes on the heels of the Kate Steinle verdict, where Steinle was allegedly shot dead by an illegal immigrant, a repeat felon living in what was one of 35 communities that are considered “ sanctuary cities. ”
As a candidate and president, Donald Trump has repeatedly railed against sanctuary city policies and the “open border politicians who shield criminal aliens from federal law enforcement.”
“They’re no good,” Trump previously said of sanctuary cities.
It seems the Trump administration is now following through on the president’s tough rhetoric.
