“The MEIZU 15,15 Plus, and M15 have marked the 15th-year-anniversary of the brand”
Back in December 2017, MEIZU founder and CEO, Jack Wong shared an image showing the retail packaging of the Meizu 15 Plus. It was then revealed that the brand is working on two flagship smartphones to mark it’s 15th-year-anniversary – the MEIZU 15 and MEIZU 15 Plus. Since then, these smartphones have been subjected to a lot of rumours and speculations including the recent revelation of the complete spec sheet. Today, the company has gone ahead and launched both the flagships alongside the MEIZU M15 at an event held in China today.
Let’s begin with the most affordable of the lot – the MEIZU M15. The smartphone comes with a 5.46-inch LTPS LCD display bearing a full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Driving the performance of the handset is a 2.2GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 626 processor. The SoC has been mated to 4GB RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. For imaging, the MEIZU 15 Lite offers a 12MP camera module on the rear panel with 1.4 µm pixel size, f/1.9 aperture, and Dual Pixel autofocus. As for selfies and video calling, you get a 20MP sensor on the front. The smartphone runs Android-based Flyme 7 OS and is powered by 3,000mAh battery. The device also gets newly designed mTouch fingerprint sensor on the front.
Moving on to the MEIZU 15 and 15 Plus, both smartphones flaunt Super AMOLED displays with 18:9 aspect ratios. While MEIZU 15 comes with a smaller 5.46-inch full HD+ screen, the MEIZU 15 Plus sports a 5.95-inch QHD display. As for the performance, the MEIZU 15 comes powered by a Snapdragon 660 chipset, which is accompanied by 4GB RAM and either 64GB or 128GB storage, depending upon the variant. The MEIZU 15 also runs the same Flyme 7 interface and is powered by 3,000mAh battery. The handset is fitted with a front-mounted mTouch fingerprint sensor as well.
Both the MEIZU 15 and 15 Plus boast dual camera modules at the rear with a 12MP Sony IMX 380 primary camera and a 20MP Sony IMX 350 secondary camera. The dual camera setup also boasts 4-axis OIS combined with Rainbow’s multi-frame synthesis technology for better low-light shots, smart scene recognition, and 3x-lossless zoom. For selfies, both the smartphones offer a 20MP snapper with 4-in-1 synthetic pixels, smart AI Beauty mode, and portrait mode.
Individually, the MEIZU 15 Plus is powered by the same Exynos 8895 processor, which drives Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and S8+ ( review). The processor has been paired with 6GB of RAM and again, either 64GB or 128GB storage depending on the variant. It also retains the same software from the smaller sibling, however, the battery gets a bumped up to 3,500mAh. The phone also gets support for 24W mCharge and features an mTouch button with a fingerprint scanner embedded.
The new MEIZU smartphones will go on sale in China starting April 29th across channels. As for the pricing, the MEIZU M15 has been priced at RMB 1699 (~Rs 17,800). The MEIZU 15’s 64GB model has been priced at RMB 2,499 (~Rs 26,300), while it’s 128GB variant will set you back by RMB 2,799 (~Rs 29,500).
