MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, MI — A woman was treated for possible smoke inhalation and minor burns after escaping a house fire with a dog late Friday, April 20.
The fire in the 3400 block of Verna Avenue in Muskegon Township started in the basement while a woman was sleeping.
The home’s one working smoke alarm woke the woman about 10 p.m. and she saw smoke coming from a vent, Muskegon Township Fire Chief David Glotzbach said.
“She was very lucky,” Glotzbach said.
He said the woman was taken to a hospital to be treated for singed hair and possible smoke inhalation.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
He said firefighters brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes but they were at the scene for several hours.
Firefighters from Fruitport and Eggleston Township assisted Muskegon Township firefighters.
