The roster for the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Switch has potentially been leaked, and includes two often requested characters that may finally be playable.
Ahead of its showing at E3, Super Smash Bros. for Switch may have had much of its roster leaked, and it includes a couple of long-time fan requests.
The information comes from Vergeben on GameFAQs, who some might remember as the person behind a few popular leaks in the past. He correctly predicted that the Ninja Turtles would be joining the Injustice 2 roster and revealed that Soul Caliber 6 was in development ahead of its announcement. His most recent leak was all over the Internet last week, and concerned a rumored racing game for the Switch called Star Fox: Grand Prix, which has yet to be confirmed by Nintendo. Regardless of his track record, it’s best to take this latest leak with a pinch of salt.
First off, Vergeben claims that Metroid‘s Ridley will finally be making it into the Super Smash Bros. roster, and says that the information comes from a very credible source. Ridley is one of the most requested characters in the history of the franchise, but series creator Masahiro Sakurai has stated many times that Ridley is too large to be a fighter, believing that if they shrunk him down, he would cease to be Ridley. Those words are a strong case against this particular portion of the leak, but perhaps Sakurai has had a change of heart.
As for the rest of the information, Vergeben says that another popular fan request is making its way into the roster who will be the first representative from Konami. According to the source, Simon Belmont from the Castlevania series will be making his series debut.
Lastly, the leak claims that all of the characters from the previous Super Smash Bros. on Wii U and 3DS will be returning to the new installment, which includes all of the guest characters, such as Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man, etc.
As far as new characters go, the Inklings have been the only ones revealed thus far through the game’s first teaser trailer. Mario and Link were also present, in their latest incarnations from Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild, respectively. The bulk of the Super Smash Bros. roster, consisting of the usual characters, could also been seen in the trailer, but were mostly obscured; though many of their silhouettes are easy to make out.
No doubt that any Super Smash Bros. fan will want all of these leaks to be true, but there’s a good chance that not all of it will pan out. We’ll know more at this year’s E3, where the game will have a strong presence at the convention.
Super Smash Bros. releases in 2018 on the Nintendo Switch.
