“‘Last Man Standing’ ended too soon.”
Comedian Tim Allen is promising to “deal with” gun issues during the revival of his popular sitcom “Last Man Standing.”
On the show, which will return to cable this fall, Allen explained to Fox News that his character, Mike Baxter, “owns a sporting goods store that has firearms, so we’re going to have to deal with that somehow.”
Allen’s comments come not long after the shooting at Santa Fe High School in Texas, where 10 people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured.
Fox decided to resurrect “Last Man Standing” after ABC canceled the sitcom despite six successful seasons. When the network canceled the comedy, several people — including Allen — suspected it may have been for political reasons.
ABC, for its part, has vehemently denied the suggestion.
Gary Newman and Dana Walden, chief executives at Fox Television Group, said the decision to bring “Last Man Standing” to Fox was an obvious choice.
“’Last Man Standing’ ended too soon and the outcry from the fans has been deafening,” they said. “We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either.”
It should be noted Newman said he’s not convinced ABC ditched the show because of Allen’s conservative political views.
“I’m not sure that cancellation really had anything to do with politics,” he explained. “If anything, it may have had something to do with that network trying to own more of its schedule…. Tim’s personal politics really aren’t a big feature on the show… [Mike Baxter] doesn’t have extreme political views.”
