A Florida woman escaped the clutches of her abusive, gun-toting boyfriend by passing a note to an unlikely rescuer — a worker at her dog’s veterinary office, authorities said.
After enduring two days of beatings and gunpoint threats at the hands of convicted felon Jeremy Floyd inside their DeLand home, battered Carolyn Reichle finally convinced him to let her bring their dog to the vet, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office .
Floyd, 39, agreed — though he insisted on going with her, loaded gun in hand, officials said.
On the ride over, Floyd threatened to kill Reichle and her family, authorities said.
When they arrived at DeLand Animal Hospital, the 28-year-old Reichle covertly slipped a handwritten note to a worker.
“Call the cops. My boyfriend is threatening me. He has a gun,” the note read. “Please don’t let him know.”
The worker quietly alerted the authorities, who showed up, seized the gun, and cuffed Floyd, officials said.
He’s being held without bail in Volusia County Branch Jail on a slew of charges, including domestic violence, aggravated assault with a firearm, and false imprisonment.
Deputies brought Reichle to an area hospital, where she was treated for a head injury, a black eye, and bruises up and down her arms.
The rescue brought an end to 48 hellish hours for Reichle that began when Floyd beat her up Wednesday night, according to authorities.
During the spat, the couple struggled over the gun, sending two rounds through a wall inside their home.
Floyd beat Reichle so badly that she spent all of Thursday laid up in bed with a head injury, according to authorities.
Floyd refused to let Reichle leave the home throughout the two days, until she hatched her escape plan Friday afternoon.
