YouTube Music will be rolled out to users in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea on Tuesday
YouTube’s music and video subscription services have been in a bit of mess lately. Although YouTube has a giant library of songs and videos, it competes with Google Play Music and YouTube Red, which is the company’s advertisement-free video streaming service. Safe to say that this mess isn’t easy to understand. But Google is about to change that by launching a new music streaming service– YouTube Music on May 22.
YouTube’s new music streaming service will not only feature official songs, albums and playlists but it will also come with YouTube vast catalog of remixes, live performances, covers, music videos– all organised and personalised.
YouTube Music will personalise the users’ home screens dynamically to provide recommendations based on various factors such as their location, their listening history and what they are doing at the moment. For example at the gym, YouTube Music will suggest some beats to set the right mood for the workout, while at the airport, it would recommend something relaxing.
YouTube said that while the ad-supported version of YouTube Music will be free, the company is also launching an ad-free paid version of the service called YouTube Music Premium which will be available for $9.99 per month. Good news is that if you have a Google Play Music subscription, you will get YouTube Music Premium membership as a part of your monthly subscription. “And if you use Google Play Music, nothing will change — you’ll still be able to access all of your purchased music, uploads and playlists in Google Play Music just like always,” YouTube wrote in its blog.
Apart from YouTube Music, Google-owned YouTube will also be re-launching YouTube Red as YouTube Premium. YouTube Premium will be an ad-free service and it will combine YouTube Music with YouTube Originals allowing users to background-play and download millions of videos from YouTube. Unlike YouTube Music Premium, YouTube Premium will be price at $11.99 per month for all new members. However, if you are a YouTube Red subscriber, you will be able to enjoy all the services at the current price.

In terms of availability, YouTube Music will be rolled out to users in the US, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and South Korea on May 22. The service will be rolled out to other countries including Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Canada, Spain, Denmark, Russia, Finland, Norway, France, Italy, Germany and Ireland in the coming weeks. There is no word on the availability in India yet. YouTube Premium, on the other hand, will be rolled out to a wider audience including countries like the UK, Mexico, and South Korea among others.
