Toni Cornell recorded Prince’s “Nothing Compares 2 U” with dad and Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell before his death.
June 18 (UPI) — Chris Cornell ‘s daughter Toni shared a duet featuring the late singer on Father’s Day.
Toni Cornell, the 13-year-old daughter of Chris Cornell and Vicky Karayiannis, said it was an “amazing experience” to record Prince ‘s “Nothing Compares 2 U” with her father before his death.
“Daddy, I love you and miss you so much,” Toni wrote . “You were the best father anyone could ask for. Our relationship was so special, and you were always there for me. You gave me courage when I didn’t have any. You believe in me when I didn’t. I miss your love everyday.”
“Recording this song with you was a special and amazing experience I wish I could repeat 100 times over and I know you would too,” she said. “Happy Father’s Day daddy, nothing compares to you.”
Cornell, the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave, died by suicide at age 52 in May 2017. Karayiannis said in a tweet Sunday that she was “so proud” of Toni for sharing the duet with fans.
“I’m so proud of my baby girl for having the courage to share this. July 19, last year she found it in her daddy’s studio files-they recorded it a few months before he died,” she wrote. “You never know what life brings and how we live each day is what’s important #FathersDay #chriscornell.”
Cornell was also parent to 12-year-old son Christopher with Karayiannis, and to 17-year-old daughter Lillian with Susan Silver. Karayiannis, Toni and Lillian honored Cornell at the Grammy Awards in January.
“So proud to be at the Grammys with my beautiful mom and sister to support and honor dad who was nominated for The Promise,” Toni said on Instagram at the time. “There are no words to express how much I love and miss you daddy. You won in my heart.”
