Demi Lovato revealed that she recently relapsed!
The 25-year-old pop star dropped the latest single “Sober” on Thursday, in which the songstress revealed that she literally broke her sobriety.
She sings with the heartfelt piano ballad, “Mama, I’m so sorry I’m not sober anymore / And daddy please forgive me for the drinks spilled on the floor.” She continues, And I’m sorry for the fans I lost who watched me fall again / I wanna be a role model, but I’m only human.”
Lovato sings at the end of the song: “I’m sorry that I’m here again / I promise I’ll get help / It wasn’t my intention / I’m sorry to myself.”
The songstress has battled mental illness, addiction and eating disorder for years. Back in 2011, the singer started her treatment, where Lovato was treated for bipolar disorder, self-harm, addiction, and bulimia. After the pop star left the treatment centre, she relapsed and then switched to a sober living facility for a year.
The singer revealed last March that she celebrated her six years of sobriety.
Some fans and followers speculated online back in April that the singer had fallen off the wagon when the same snap was shared to different Instagram accounts — Lovato was holding a cup containing what appears to look like a yellow liquid in one post by singer Hayley Kiyoko, while in another post, the cup seemed to blur out.
“I’m not tryna question Demi’s sobriety bc I have a lot of respect for her,” one user commented. “It just seems weird that her best friends post this pic with it shaded and then Hayley who isn’t rlly that close to Demi posts the one where you can see what she’s holding?? Like tf is going on.”
Lovato replied: “I don’t have to defend anything but it was Red Bull.”
The pop star made an announcement just a few days after the Instagram post created buzz, that the singer would be cancelling the South America dates’ remainder of her Tell Me You Love Me World Tour.
Lovato took to Twitter on April 10 and wrote, “I’m absolutely heartbroken that I have to make this announcement today… due to production issues we have to move the South America #tellmeyoulovemetour dates.” She continued, “Ecuador, Costa Rica, and Panama I’m devastated we had to remove those shows.”
Back in September 2017, the singer was honoured with the “Spirit of Sobriety” award at the Brent Shapiro Foundation for Drug Prevention Summer Spectacular in Beverly Hills.
At the time Lovato said, “Every day is a battle.” The pop star went on to say, “You just have to take it one day at a time, some days are easier than others and some days you forget about drinking and using, but for me, I work on my physical health, which is important, but my mental health as well.”
